Discussion on Small Businesses in Alabama
Rep. Dale Strong met with Alabama resident Adam Thompson in Huntsville on Wednesday night to talk about various topics, particularly the importance of small businesses, their owners, and employees.
Strong, a Republican from Huntsville, shared insights from his own background.
“I have a small business background,” he explained. “What’s interesting about small businesses is there’s a small group of us who know what it’s like. Signing the front of a check feels quite different from signing the back.”
“I wish I had a more thrilling story, but my family ran gas and grocery stores, and I once owned a 45-foot charter bus. We were, well, just the one bus, really—only had enough people to manage that one.”
Lawmakers referred to small businesses as “the American foundation block.”
“The more difficult the work gets, the more you can support your employees,” Strong noted. “It’s a hard task. You’re managing quarterly taxes and dealing with state and county regulations. We need to bring America back to its roots,” he emphasized.
According to Strong, both the value and success of small businesses rely heavily on a strong work ethic.
“We should focus on putting more money in people’s pockets to help our economy grow. Let’s bring business back to America.”
Additionally, lawmakers discussed President Donald Trump’s much-talked-about “big and beautiful bill,” advising caution regarding its approval.
“We haven’t crossed the finish line yet,” he clarified. “Some folks claim they’ve made it, but that finish line is more than just a milestone. It includes going home, the Senate, and the president.”
