Incumbent Republican Rep. Paul Gossar was re-elected to the House of Representatives.
Gosar, who was not opposed on the ballot, represents Arizona’s 9th congressional district.
Gosar was first elected to Congress in 2010, representing what was then the 1st Congressional District in northern Arizona, and served one term. Then, after changing his district in 2012, he ran for and won in Arizona’s 4th congressional district.
The new district boundary covers most of the state’s western border, including parts of La Paz, Maricopa, Mojave and Yuma counties. After the re-election maps were approved earlier in the year, the House district maps will be different.
According to Gosar’s website, some of his priorities include Second Amendment gun rights, reducing debt and spending, repealing Obamacare, and protecting religious freedom.
Gosar is an ally of former President Donald Trump and has promoted false claims denying the 2020 election results. He has repeatedly called for controversy on his social media, with critics deeming him extremist and accusing him of involvement in the January 6, 2021 riots at the US Capitol.
