Van Olden Comments on House Republicans’ Stance
Wisconsin Republican Rep. Derrick Van Olden recently expressed strong views regarding the pressures House Republicans face to align with President Donald Trump’s major initiatives.
In response to questions about the settlement bill from a Punch Bowl reporter, Van Olden stated, “The President of the United States did not give us a mission. We’re not just pawns in this situation; I’m a member of Congress.”
His office later remarked that reporters failed to capture the full context of his statements. They highlighted that the questioning from Nguyen, the reporter, lacked clarity and criticized her for not including Van Olden’s affirmation of Trump’s leadership role within the GOP.
“This is exactly why the American people have such low regard for mainstream media,” his office remarked on X, referring to Nguyen’s inquiry about whether Republicans were being unduly influenced by Trump.
Van Olden’s office indicated a desire to deliver significant legislation to Trump’s desk, emphasizing that he looks forward to signing a substantial and impactful bill.
A video shared by the House GOP reiterated that members are prepared to approve this “big and beautiful bill,” which they claim would result in historic tax relief for workers and the middle class, thereby invigorating the economy and fulfilling the American dream.
In the video, Van Olden appeared alongside others to promote the legislation.
It’s noteworthy that before his political career, Van Olden served for 26 years as a senior chief in the Navy SEALs, undertaking multiple combat missions and overseeing strategic operations across various regions.
When approached for additional comments, his office reiterated previous statements made on X regarding the media’s portrayal of his remarks.
