REPORT: Judge’s Son Charged With Shooting Dad At Home

Authorities arrested and charged an Alabama man Saturday afternoon with fatally shooting the father of a circuit judge in his home, according to reports.

Khalfani Hardwick, 36, allegedly shot and seriously injured her father, Johnny Hardwick, at Hardwick's residence around 1 p.m. (Alabama Local News) report. Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies searched the area, found Khalfani-Hardwick's vehicle abandoned in the road, caught up with her on Route 231 and arrested her without incident, according to the report.

Hardwick, the presiding judge of Alabama's Montgomery County 15th Judicial Circuit and current president of the Alabama Circuit Court Judges Association, reportedly underwent surgery for the shooting.

Authorities charged Khalfani-Hardwick with first-degree domestic violence and certain prohibited persons in possession of a firearm, the report said. If convicted of the first-degree domestic violence charge, he could reportedly face life in prison.

Kulfani Hardwick pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in 2017 and admitted to shooting Clayton Riley in the head, according to the report.

“I am saddened by the news that Judge Johnny Hardwick has been shot and killed,” Montgomery Mayor Stephen L. Reed said in a statement to Alabama Local News. “He has served our community honorably in the Circuit Court for decades and helped spearhead numerous reforms to make our court system more fair and just,” Mayor Reed said.
