In mid-September, sources said one of the stars of Kevin Costner's Horizon: An American Saga was seriously shocked that the series had already flopped.
Costner's pet project, “Horizon: An American Saga,” appears to have been a huge flop for not only its creators but its cast members as well. According to According to Life & Style magazine, after giving up a career-reviving role in the final season of “Yellowstone,” isolating himself from his industry colleagues and losing around $60 million after a $100 million box office flop, Costner must now confront stars who are suffering from his failure.
One of the stars of the ensemble cast is Luke Wilson. “Luke was a real believer when he signed on to star in Horizon,” a source told the outlet. “He was totally on board with Kevin's vision and the idea that his massive fan base would rally together to make this a surprise summer hit.”

Wilson had previously publicly voiced his support for the project, having spent a full year producing the first two films in what was to have been a four-part series, which he called “a truly epic Western” at the time.
“It's been months and Luke has a ghostly look on his face,” the source continued. “He's absolutely distraught that the movie did so badly, especially with the critical reception. It doesn't make sense to him and it's upsetting.” The situation has left Wilson “utterly distraught,” especially with the “hatred” directed at the movie. “Kevin had been warned by marketing executives that he might face criticism in the press for this movie, and that's exactly what happened,” the source added. “The critical slam at Cannes hurt – it hurts a lot, but Kevin has a history of defying adversity in the past and scoring huge hits with films that critics didn't really get at first – most notably 1992's 'The Bodyguard.'”

“What's even more frustrating for Kevin is that he doesn't feel the film industry is behind him at all during this major transition and he's met with opposition at every turn. This is extremely frustrating for someone who has worked so hard for Hollywood, especially Westerns,” the source said. Here's the thing: thinking or expecting that you owe someone something is the best way to set yourself up for disappointment. Costner is a prime example of this behavior, seemingly thinking that his celebrity and past success means he deserves to win “Horizon.”
Wilson needn't worry, because no one is going to hold him accountable for Costner's ego.
