A heartwarming moment turned heartbreaking when a newly engaged woman fell to her death shortly after her boyfriend proposed on July 6, The New York Post reports.
Yesim Demir and her new fiancée Nizamettin Gulus were celebrating their new engagement next to a cliff in the northwestern Turkish city of Canakkale when the tragedy struck, The New York Post reported. report. After the proposal, when Mr. Glus heard Demir’s screams, he rushed back to his car to collect the things he needed for a celebratory picnic. Rushing back to the scene, Grus found DeMille slipped more than 100 feet off a clifftop point in the Gulf of Polente and fell, the paper reported.

“We chose [that spot] I want to leave romantic memories after the proposal. We drank some alcohol. All happened at once. She lost her balance and fell,” Glus said of Demir’s tragic fall.
Grus called for help immediately, but DeMille was pronounced dead after 45 minutes of life support, according to the New York Post.
This cliffside spot is reportedly a favorite hangout spot for locals, especially for watching the sunset, but many admit that the place isn’t completely safe. “[T]The roads are very bad and there are no precautions on the edge of the cliffs. We should put up a fence here and take precautions,” DeMille’s friends said, the newspaper reported. After DeMille’s fall, access to the cliffside area was restricted while authorities investigated. The area reopened on July 15 in a “controlled manner,” according to a New York Post report.
