REPORT: Parents Arrested For Attempted ‘Honor Killing’ Of Daughter For Refusing Arranged Marriage, Police Say

Two parents have been indicted on multiple charges in connection with an attempted honor killing in the attack on their daughter just outside her school in western Washington, local reports said.

On Oct. 18, Ihsan Ali, 44, choked his 17-year-old daughter at a bus stop near Timberline High School in Lacey. According to Olympian. Ali’s wife, Zaraa Subi Mohsin Ali, 40, also allegedly tried to strangle the victim. A video of the alleged assault was leaked online.

Ihsan Ali is charged in Thurston County Superior Court with attempted first-degree kidnapping, domestic violence, second-degree assault, domestic violence and fourth-degree assault. His bail was set at $150,000.

Zaraa Ali is charged with second-degree assault, domestic violence, second-degree robbery and violation of a protective order, and his bail is set at $500,000.

Authorities reportedly ordered the parents to hand over their passports and not to contact them or their daughter upon release from custody.

Witnesses and investigators said the victim had fled her home for protection at school after her parents planned to take her to Iraq for an arranged marriage with an older man and threatened to kill her. Ethan Ali reportedly found his daughter outside the school as she tried to catch a bus to the evacuation center. Ihsan Ali allegedly grabbed his daughter and began punching and strangling her, before multiple witnesses intervened.

Victor Burns, the father of the victim’s 16-year-old boyfriend, told Fox 13 Seattle that his son intervened to free the victim, but Ethan Ali punched him, sending him flying onto concrete. He said that it has been done. During that time, the victim reportedly began to lose consciousness.

Burns told FOX 13 in Seattle that Zaraa Ali allegedly showed up at Burns’ home multiple times looking for victims and approached Zaraa Ali over Ethan and Zaraa’s alleged assaults. He said he had filed a restraining order.

North Thurston Public Schools told KOMO News they are involved in investigating the incident.
