REPORT Performer Injured In Deadly Nightclub Roof Collapse

At least 27 people reportedly died in the Dominican Republic when nightclub roofs collapsed on Tuesday.

The tragic incident occurred at Santo Domingo’s Jet Set Discotheque during a concert hosted by famous meringue singer Rubby Pérez. According to BBC. The collapsed persons injured more than 150 people, including the singer. Approximately 400 rescue personnel were deployed to the site. Juan Manuel Mendes, director of the Emergency Operations Center, said they were still trying to free people from the tile rub. It is not yet clear what caused the incident.

Méndez noted that the ambulance has made more than 100 trips to local hospitals, according to the BBC.

Mendes said he hopes many people stuck under the collapsed roof will remain alive.

According to the BBC, Jet Set is an attendance nightclub that frequently performs dance music concerts on Mondays. The video footage reportedly shot from within the club is widely shared on social media. The clip appeared to show attendees enjoying the live concert just before the roof crashed and the video turned black. I hear a scream A confusing clip. Others share images and videos of the devastation, capturing tile bles that remained where the venue once stood.

According to the BBC, one of Perez’s band members told local news that the venue was filled to capacity when the roof collapsed “at about 1am.” (Related: Report: Injuries reported in shooting at Boozy Bada’s concert)

“I thought it was an earthquake,” the musician told reporters. Perez’s daughter said her father was one of those trapped under the roof rub.

As the desperate search for survivors continues, things continue to develop.
