REPORT: Pickleball Could Cost US $400 Million In Injuries This Year, Shoots Down Health Insurer’s Shares By Over 9%

Who knew pickleball could be so devastating?

Wall Street analysts have blamed America’s favorite pickleball, as stocks of the insurance giants have plunged in recent days after a shocking rise in health care utilization.

UnitedHealth Group, the country’s largest health insurer, warned earlier this month that both hip replacements and knee surgeries would be on the rise and, frankly, cost a fortune. The news sent UnitedHealth shares down more than 9% in 24 hours.

Analysts initially thought the rise in surgeries was the result of delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, but researchers at Swiss investment bank UBS now blame pickleball injuries. . It said it could cost Americans at least $377 million in 2023. bloomberg.

As a pickleballer myself, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at this story.

My wife and I have been working on improving our health lately. We eat better, drink only water, exercise every day, and try to be kings and queens. One of the ways we exercise is by playing pickleball. It’s also really cool, we made our own court at home using nets and stuff, so we like to play on it every day after we finish writing the blog. So these days I’m interested in anything related to pickleball.

That’s why I wrote this story on my blog and it made me think about the constant commercials on TV. You might know what I’m talking about… I can’t remember what it was for (medicine?) but there was an old couple playing pickleball and one of them had a heart attack. It is a story that wakes up and the TV screen disappears. Black with only a green line crossing it (signaling death). Who would have thought pickleball could be such a dangerous game?

But I will not quit. I’m too in the Hall of Fame for that.
