REPORT: Police Charge New Jersey Mayor Gina LaPlaca With DUI In Alleged Incident Involving Young Son

Police reportedly charged Gina Laplaka, mayor of Lumberton, New Jersey, with DUI, reckless driving and child risk.

According to local outlet ABC Action News, witnesses recorded the video on Monday that drivers are unable to stay in the lane and rarely hit utility poles. Police found the car at Lumberton’s home in Laplaka around 6pm. She admitted to being drinking and is said to have recently picked up her 2-year-old from day care. Court documents found an open container of alcohol in the car, According to To ABC.

Laplaca’s husband Jason Carty told the news outlet she was seeking treatment for her addiction.

“Gina has struggled and is now the person who has the help she needs.” Carti wrote On facebook.

“I ask everyone to think of her as she is on her path to recovery.”

Carty spoke about how the incident affected all his family.

“Gina is a loving, caring mother and stepmother,” he said. “Our oldest is teenagers and you can see everything that’s unkind online. I just ask you to respect our privacy.

Laplaka was elected to the Township Committee in 2020 and re-elected in 2023.

Carty told the news outlet that he recently left Neptune Township’s business manager for political reasons.

Local residents expressed concern about how the issues were handled.

Laplaca is scheduled to appear in court on April 28th.
