Sofia Vergara believes her accent limits her options when it comes to being cast in diverse roles, she claimed in an interview with the Los Angeles Times published Monday.
The actress lamented the limitations posed by her unique accent. “There aren't many characters that can be played with this stupid accent, so I'm always looking for characters,” Vergara said. Despite struggling with her accent, the actress learned to embrace the roles given to her. Vergara has landed the role of notorious Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco in the new Netflix series Griselda. Vergara, best known for her Emmy-nominated role as Gloria Pritchett on the hit sitcom Modern Family, is stepping into a world far removed from the light-hearted atmosphere of her previous work. “I had no idea what it meant to have a process,” Vergara said. “It was difficult because I had no formal training as an actor. I married Joe. [Manganiello], he's a classically trained shitty actor. I asked various questions and saw how he prepared. I always wondered, “What do real actors do?” Can I do this? ”
To better embody this character, Vergara borrowed the expertise of Nancy Banks, a respected acting coach known for her work with Hollywood luminaries such as Margot Robbie and Jennifer Aniston.
