REPORT: Woman Reports Her 8-Year-Old Missing, Police Make Grisly Discovery In Her Attic

An Ohio woman reported her 8-year-old son, Martonio, missing on Friday, and police said the boy was found dead in his mother's attic, ABC6 reported.

Columbus Police Department (CPD) officers took two women into custody, including the victim's mother, LaShanda Wilder, according to a CPD statement Saturday. ABC6 6 According to court documents, the child was discovered in a trash bag in the attic of her home around 6 p.m.

Wilder called police around 12 p.m. Friday to report Martonio missing, Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant said Friday night, the outlet reported. The boy's mother reportedly called authorities after she missed her son after he went to bed on Thursday.

According to the outlet, a statement from Chicago Police said officers suspected “suspicious activity” after arriving at Wilder's home and assessing the situation. Documents reportedly listed Martonio's cause of death as “neck compression.”

According to the outlet, an Amber Alert was issued for Wilder and her two other children, Michael Simon, 9, and King Wilder, 3, hours after Martonio's body was discovered. The two were reportedly found about 20 minutes later inside a relative's home.

Wilder was charged with murder and obstruction of justice, according to the outlet. Another suspect, Jonah Rowe, who is believed to be the partner of the 32-year-old mother, was also reportedly charged with obstruction of justice. Police said Wilder and Rowe did not cooperate with police attempts to search for the boy, and his mother objected to a police dog being used to search the home, the police report added.

Wilder's brother called his sister “evil” and told ABC6 that his sons were in a good mood when she wasn't around, the outlet reported. A neighbor, Raymond Bircher, told the outlet that the child's alleged murder was “sickening.”

“He should be playing here right now,” Bircher was quoted as saying, “but he's in heaven.”
