Update on the Investigation of Tyler Robinson’s Assassination
On Tuesday, ABC News reporter Matt Gutman remarked on the text message exchanged between Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, and his transgender boyfriend. Gutman described the message as “impressive.”
Utah County Attorney Jeffrey Gray announced charges against the suspect in the murder of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. Among the significant evidence presented was a text message sent by Robinson expressing his desire to protect the suspect. Gutman conveyed his emotional reaction to this revelation, stating that it held a deep sense of meaning.
“I don’t think I’ve experienced a press conference like this before—it’s fulfilling yet deeply moving,” Gutman commented. He highlighted the complexities of the relationship, noting how the suspect, identified as male at birth but who now identifies as female, was asked to delete the message and avoid contacting law enforcement.
“There’s this tragic duality in play here,” he added.
Officials disclosed that in a text message, Robinson admitted to murdering Twiggs and planned to surrender himself. When asked why he committed the act, Robinson stated, “He had enough [of Kirk’s] hate,” asserting that “some hate cannot be negotiated.”
Robinson also confessed to a friend in a Discord chat shortly before the incident, as reported by The Washington Post.
Prosecutors have charged Robinson with aggravated murder, the discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, obstruction of justice, and tampering with witnesses, among other violent crimes.
Robinson’s mother expressed concern over her son’s evolution into what she described as “more political” views, indicating a shift in his identity toward being “more gay and right-oriented.”
Authorities suggest that Robinson targeted Kirk due to political reasons, which could result in harsher penalties, as noted by Gray. During the two-day search for the suspect, his parents confronted him after seeing his image in security footage on the news, urging him to confess.
In response to their inquiries, Robinson claimed to have killed Kirk because “there’s too much evil, and the man harbored too much hatred.” Subsequently, his father contacted a youth pastor and reported the murder to the authorities.
Notable figures have actively attempted to frame Robinson as a conservative Christian based on his family background. However, GOP Utah Governor Spencer Cox and investigators have quickly countered this narrative, as Robinson himself reportedly stated that he was “deeply indoctrinated with left ideology.”
