Republican Rep. Mike Turner Blasts Administration’s Approach To Russian Nuclear Dangers

Rep. Mike Turner, R-Ohio, expressed concern about the Biden administration's seemingly slow national security efforts in an interview with NBC's “Meet the Press” on Saturday.

Mr Turner sounded the alarm about Russia's alleged plans to deploy nuclear weapons in space, saying:meet the press” The Biden administration may not be adequately addressing this potential international crisis. Turner called on the administration to declassify information about Russia's nuclear space program that allegedly targets satellites. He told NBC that he “needs to make sure we avoid what could become an international crisis.”

“Everyone who saw this used the same words I did: This is a very serious threat,” Turner said on “Meet the Press.” “We met, [national security adviser] Jake Sullivan and he started making plans to hopefully begin to address this issue. ”

Turner announced Wednesday that the House Intelligence Committee has shared details about serious national security threats with members of Congress. The threat was later identified by NBC News as a Russian nuclear space program. (Related: House delays vote on surveillance reform just hours after lawmakers warn of 'national security threat')

However, Professor Sullivan also addressed the issue earlier this week. He indicated that he has proactively reached out to the Gang of Eight, Republican and Democratic leadership in the House and Senate, and the leadership of their respective intelligence committees to provide detailed explanations on the matter. .

NBC said Turner's calls for transparency and action reflected his concerns that the Biden administration's response was not aggressive enough. Despite his urgent tone, other lawmakers, such as Democratic Connecticut Rep. Jim Himes, advised the public not to panic and downplayed the urgency of the threat from Russia.
