Good news for food lovers in Alabama: Birmingham Restaurant Week has kicked off again, and it’s more delicious than ever.

This yearly celebration of cuisine showcases nearly 50 local restaurants, food trucks, bars, and catering services. They’re offering special menus and prices, spotlighting the best of Birmingham’s vibrant food scene. The preview event, hosted at Heaven on Birmingham’s South Side, provided a sneak peek of what’s in store for the week. It was a lively gathering that brought chefs, restaurant owners, and food enthusiasts together to sample various dishes. The excitement and creativity of Birmingham’s culinary diversity were on full display. Here are a few highlights from the preview party and what to expect during Restaurant Week.

Sol Y Luna offers an inventive take on Latin cuisine, featuring handcrafted cocktails and artistic tapas. Think small plates and refreshing margaritas—this is definitely a hotspot for lively evenings with friends. At the preview, chef and owner Jorge Castro treated attendees to a delightful bite of passion fruit shrimp ceviche served in a tortilla. Castro expressed the sense of community that Restaurant Week fosters. “It’s all about people,” he remarked, noting how returning customers and new faces converge during the event. His special menu includes shrimp sliders, Cuban sandwiches, and tres leches lemon cakes.

Magnolia Point offers a unique twist on Southern soul food, serving delightful dishes infused with Bayou flavors. Located in a restored building from the 1930s on Magnolia Avenue, the restaurant has a relaxed feel reminiscent of coastal comfort foods. Their offering at the preview was a creamy black-eyed peas dip paired with fresh vegetable crudités. This dish is featured on both lunch and dinner fixed-price menus for Restaurant Week, alongside Gulf Coast classics like gumbo and fried catfish.

Another stalwart in Birmingham’s culinary landscape, Michael’s Restaurant continues to serve up steak, seafood, and Southern favorites. Led by Bernadine Birdsong, the restaurant embraces Restaurant Week as a chance to connect with the community. “It’s a great way for people to step out and try new things,” she said. The menu for this week will include the iconic Salmon Rockefeller, where the fish is topped with a spinach cream sauce and crumbled bacon.

Taj India, one of the oldest Indian restaurants in the city, has been delighting Birmingham patrons for nearly three decades and is excited to participate in Restaurant Week again. Renowned for its rich curries and warm service, it has become a beloved destination for both longtime locals and newcomers alike. At the preview party, they served a favorite: chicken tikka masala, a comforting and flavorful dish that exemplifies traditional Indian cuisine. For Restaurant Week, their menu also features Tandoori Chicken and Sag Paneer.
