Reviving Alabama’s Economy

Reflections on Leadership and Alabama’s Future

When Donald Trump kicked off his campaign back in 2015, I remember discussing it with my sons, Tucker and Troy. I really believed he could be the leader America needed.

Unlike many politicians, he had actually created real jobs and run a successful business. For years, Trump was admired by Hollywood figures, musicians, and the media—until he announced his presidential run as an outsider, shaking things up.

His determination to step away from his comfortable life and advocate for the American people inspired my own run for the U.S. Senate six years ago. I, too, found myself in a fortunate position after a successful coaching career. I wasn’t in it for a job; I just wanted to give back to a country I love. Since arriving in Washington in January 2021, I’ve tried to do just that.

From addressing the Democratic agenda around gender issues to fighting against the Biden administration’s abortion policies funded by taxpayers, I’ve stood up for Alabama’s conservative values and challenged the status quo at every turn.

Now, I’m eager to take that same energy back to Alabama. I’ve always aimed to build teams and solve problems. Winning is what I love most. With Trump’s administration fostering victories, I feel hopeful about our country’s trajectory.

Importantly, he’s returning power to the states. Alabama is surrounded by other states with robust economies, and it’s my responsibility as governor to ensure we can compete. I’m working tirelessly to cut costs, stimulate the economy, and attract jobs to Alabama.

If you drive through Alabama, it’s evident that past unfair trade policies have led to the closure of many industrial sites and hurt our small towns. Fortunately, Trump’s policies are reviving American manufacturing. In just months, we’ve witnessed over $500 million in new investments and jobs. One company from Dothan shared with me that these tariffs helped them avoid laying off 300 workers.

Alabamians are among the most skilled and hardworking individuals in the nation. As we move towards a “Made in America” future, there’s no reason our state shouldn’t be at the forefront of this revival. As governor, I plan to cut taxes, eliminate waste, and encourage new businesses to boost our economy.

We are also focused on supporting our exceptional farmers. I take pride in representing Alabama on the Senate Committee for Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry. Unfortunately, our agricultural producers have faced significant challenges over the last four years under Biden.

I fully back Trump’s comprehensive trade strategies to ensure our producers can compete fairly in global markets. I have advocated for strong tariffs on Vietnamese catfish and Indian shrimp imports.

While Trump is guiding us, there’s still more to accomplish. As governor, I’ll collaborate with his administration and Congress to secure the support our farmers, foresters, and producers deserve.

We also can’t overlook Alabama’s dynamic defense sector.

Huntsville is paving the way in defense and space technology. I’ve seen first-hand how crucial the Trump administration is for our national security. Just last month, I was honored to host FBI Director Kash Patel at Redstone Arsenal. He was impressed with what he saw, and afterward, he announced plans to move hundreds more agents to the area.

Over the next year in the Senate, I’ll fight for more federal resources to better serve our great state, whether by relocating Space Command to Huntsville or securing additional funding through the National Defense Authorization Act.

I’m grateful to the people of Alabama. Throughout my four years in Washington, I remember when I first entered the race—my wife, Suzanne, told me it wouldn’t resonate with Alabama fans. But my message remains unchanged: we’re all part of the same team.

As Americans, we love God and want our nation to thrive. Alabama’s success is about more than just the football games we rally behind on Saturdays.

As governor, I’ll keep fighting for you every single day—this time from Montgomery.

US Senator Tommy Tuberville is an Alabama Senator and is a candidate for governor in 2026.
