Former NFL head coach Rex Ryan said he could “fix” the Dallas Cowboys defense, but “they couldn't afford it.”
“New York would have been able to sort it out quickly, but they couldn't afford it, so I stayed here,” Ryan said Monday on “DiPietro & Rosenberg” about his current position as an analyst for ESPN.
The former New York Jets and Buffalo Bills head coach appeared to criticize Mike Zimmer, who was brought in as the Cowboys defensive coordinator to replace Dan Quinn, who left for the Washington Commanders.
“You bring in a guy who was 29th in the league his final two years in Minnesota, and when he left you could see the eagerness to blame the players,” Ryan said. “Is he going to inspire the team? This could end really badly for Dallas.”

“It's like a joke,” Ryan said on ESPN's “Get Up” about the Cowboys' loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. (RELATED: Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb spotted yelling at Dak Prescott on the sideline during brutal loss to Ravens)
“This is a team that makes you wonder what they did this week,” the ESPN analyst said. “I get it, it happens to anybody one week, but to lose badly at home two weeks in a row is unthinkable.”
