SAFFORD — One of Gila Valley’s newest businesses held its official grand opening last Saturday, cutting the ribbon for the Graham County Chamber of Commerce.

The Mohave Cannabis Club began with growing and cultivating in Fort Mohave on the western side of the state and has now expanded into retail sales.

“Safford is the second store we’ve opened to date,” said Ayumi Hanaoka, Mohave Cannabis Club’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “We started in Somerton in Safford, but we have another location in Grove as well.”

Arizona will have more than $1.6 billion in cannabis sales in 2021, second only to California, and a 16% tax on recreational marijuana sales in Arizona. Despite these figures, Hanaoka said it’s still a growing industry.

“It’s not as saturated as California. Arizona has less than 200 retail stores,” she said.

The Mohave Cannabis Club is located at 1809 W. Thatcher Blvd. Located in Safford, it is open daily from 9am to 5pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
