Yuma, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – Gila River road crossing being renovated from rapids to low water levels.
This large-scale project by the Yuma County Department of Public Works is underway in the Mohawk Valley after the Gila River floods have subsided.
The Gila River destroyed several roads in Yuma County.
Today, the Yuma County Department of Public Works is in full swing.
“We started at 36E and worked our way through maintenance to the point where we needed to replace a torn pipe and a torn road with road damage,” said Yuma County Public Works Highway Maintenance Superintendent Billy Pfizer. It’s where I am,” he said. A river that crosses the road. ”
A road intersection was damaged, Fizer said.
“There are 14 cars in total, but here at 36E is the only road that is actually asphalted, it’s all dirt roads,” Fizer said.
It takes heavy equipment and hundreds of hours to get this job done.
“We basically have two separate workers. One is in charge of the road maintenance itself, and the other is the Structural Department worker who actually replaces the pipes under the road.” Pfizer explained.
Road damage created detours and affected people who traveled frequently through the area. More commute time.
Sharon Rohl, who has run a hair salon in the area for more than 30 years, is relieved that the restoration is complete.
“It’s a little inconvenient,” Mr. Roll said, “because my house is across the river, I have to go around an intersection that’s still open.”
This project will take approximately 2-3 months to complete
