A film crew that landed in Buffalo has turned these local hangouts into prime filming locations for a new romantic comedy road trip movie titled Adventure Tom. The movie will be released in the next year.
The film is produced by Create Entertainment with 13 travel staff and 2 actors. The party came to Buffalo from South Dakota, where they were filming on Mount Rushmore. They will leave for Colorado in three days, exploring state and national parks across the United States while finishing filming in Arizona’s Grand Canyon. The film follows the lives of Tom and Lily, two young men in their late twenties who meet in Minneapolis and go on a cross-county road trip together to organize their lives and connect in authentic ways. “We’ve used many locations in your town as part of the film,” said the film’s producer and owner of New York City-based production company Create Entertainment, which is making the film. One Atit Shah said. “People have been very welcoming and I feel safe in this city.”
Shah said he had to run around town looking for six filming locations in just one morning, but it wasn’t too difficult because people were so open and welcoming. .
“Everyone in town was so friendly,” he said as he watched the actors act out a scene outside Busy Bee.
Shah said the film’s director and screenwriter, Miguel Durán, came to Buffalo while looking for filming locations. The pair originally wanted to shoot in Bighorn, Sheridan County, but liked the “feel” of Buffalo better.
“A large part of it was to showcase a beautiful little-known part of America, and along the way we met Buffalo,” Durand said.
The lead actors in the film are Graeme Patrick Martin, of CBS sitcom ‘Two and a Half Men’ fame, and Andrea Rondo, who starred in the third season of the Netflix drama Narcos. The two are a romantic duo and drive the film’s plot.

Patrick Martin’s character Tom has been described as “anxious” and “stifling his emotions to avoid confrontation”, while Rondo’s Lily is “career-oriented over-the-top and driven by her beliefs.” He is described as a person who is rational thinking. “
“They wanted to find a quintessential American town,” said Jason Friedman, one of the film’s co-producers. Friedman said what makes the city quintessentially American is its “warm and welcoming atmosphere.”
Shah said business owners all over town were keen to get their staff to film around their facilities. The bar brawl scene was planned at the Century Club, and Busy Bee was to be the place for coffee the next morning. Another scene at Fort Phil Kearney incorporated a story about American history.
Shah said he went to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and City Hall to tell local authorities that he would be filming in the city when concerned locals had questions.
Laughter erupted when he told the sheriff’s office that he was going to shoot a fight scene at the Century Club.
“They said, ‘We don’t have to play at Century Club.’ It just happens,” Shah said.
Century Club owner Ryan Money said he was happy to have film crews at his company.
“I said, ‘What do I get out of this deal?’ And they said, ‘Come here for a drink tonight.'”
