Ronna McDaniel To Step Down As RNC Chair: REPORT

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel plans to resign immediately after the South Carolina primary in late February, according to the New York Times (NYT).

Two sources familiar with the plan told the outlet that McDaniel informed leading Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump of his latest decision. The former president will promote North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Michael Whatley to replace McDaniel, following recent pushback from Trump and other Republicans, according to the New York Times. Mr. McDaniel has faced criticism in recent months for his leadership of the RNC, with many party members early on expressing financial concerns after a significant drop in donations at the beginning of the year. In an interview with Fox on Sunday, President Trump suggested there would be “some changes” at the RNC when asked about McDaniel's performance.
