The Yavapai College baseball team won the pitchers’ duel and went into a brawl Tuesday afternoon against the Arizona Western College Matadors in Yuma. A 2-1 win in Game 1 and a 14-10 loss in Game 2 saw the Roughriders go 6-6 for his entire young season and 3-3 in ACCAC contests.

game 1

The second game of the doubleheader was the furthest from a pitchers duel, and the Matadors started the game’s first pitch over the center field wall for Jacklin’s second home run of the season. I soon found out.
AWC then quickly capitalized on a sloppy YC defense in the bottom of the first to take a 2–1 lead.
In the top of the second, the Roughriders took the lead on RBI singles by sophomore infielders Jack Erickson and Jacklin. In the top of the third, Thomas tripled to left center before coming in to score on an RBI groundout from the hole, giving the Roughriders a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the frame.
From there, YC was forced to catch up for the rest of the afternoon as the Matadors pushed for 5 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 7-4 lead.
In the top of the fifth, the Roughriders had the bases loaded on two free passes to cut the deficit to one run, but the Matadors scored 10 with three spots in the bottom of the frame. -6 leads.
A seesaw battle soon ensued as Hall doubled for the top run in the top of the sixth and then scored on a two-run single off Roselle’s bat. Roselle’s next three-hitter, the Roughriders, tied his contest 10–10 with a wild pass ball.
Once again, the theme of the second game, the Matadors quickly responded with another 3-spot in the bottom of the 6th to take a 13-10 lead.
AWC added another run in the bottom of the seventh and held the Roughriders scoreless in the final three frames to clinch a split and a 14–10 victory.
Offensively, Jacklin led the team with four hits on the day as a sophomore infielder. Mitch Wood Dando and Thomas had three each, and Dando and Thomas had two.freshman catcher Waile Kane YatesHall, Rosell, Erickson, and Radke finished Game 2 with one hit each.

The Roughriders will return to action on Saturday, February 25 in Phoenix, Arizona with a doubleheader Game 1 starting at noon against the South Mountain Community College Cougars.
