In 2017, I left my home in Northern California to come to Flagstaff, where I spent three months as a “fake pro runner,” somehow persuading HOKA Northern Arizona Elite coach Ben Rosario to convince him I got permission to train as a middleman on the team. – Spend your amateur years and write a book about the experience.

Every runner with a true passion for their sport dreams of working hard for a period of time like a pro and discovering their true limits, and this is an opportunity for me to make that dream a reality. bottom.

We were not disappointed. By the end of the summer, I felt ten years younger than he was, and I was able to do the same, breaking my marathon personal best time set nearly a decade ago.

But the best part of this experience was just that experience. I love running the endless trails of Flagstaff, I love hanging out with the young Olympic hopefuls, and I love all that comes with it: healthy eating, weekly massages, and even physical therapy sessions. I loved it.

Late last year, I left California again for Flagstaff. This time it’s forever. My mission was to recreate the magical experience I enjoyed in 2017 for other runners through my Dream Run Camp venture.

Unlike traditional running camps for adults, Mine features a unique rolling participation format, where individual runners are free to arrive any time between May 1st and November 30th, and stay for a week or more. You can stay for 12 weeks. Camps are held in a five-bedroom house in the shadow of a pine, just west of downtown. Amenities include access to a commercial-quality gym, recovery lounge, spa pool with underwater treadmills, and coach-in-residence (me!).

Additionally, I am affiliated with NAZ Elite, and they have generously agreed to give Dream Runners (as I call them) the same direct touchpoints as I do. Two to three times a week, our group joins up with Rosary’s group for training (naturally, our group does a slower, scaled-down version).

Additionally, Dream Runners will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with strength coaches, injury specialists, and other professionals affiliated with NAZ Elite. Breaks between structured activities include fun content such as Live from Dream Run Camp. At the event, local or visiting pros, as well as other running and celebrities in his community, will live-stream his Q&A on his YouTube.

My first trip to Flagstaff was to prove two things. One is that everyday runners are not that different from elite runners and can benefit from mimicking their practice and lifestyle. And second, every runner deserves the opportunity to run hard in the sport they love. Those three months were the best three months of my life. Words cannot express how excited we are to be able to offer a similar experience to runners who want to, regardless of age, experience or ability.
