Rush Propst is no stranger to controversy.

Propst, who was hired as Pell City's head coach last year, was in the news again earlier this week when reports surfaced Wednesday morning that he had been fired by a vote of the Pell City School Board.

Two of the board members who spoke out on the matter supported Propst. Board member Norman Wilder said:[Propst’s] Success has created jealousy and vengeance in others. False accusations and denunciations by envious people are now a weekly occurrence.”
Wilder did not elaborate on what Propst is accused of, and the reasons for his firing were not discussed at the meeting.
Propst took part in the opening kickoff 105.5 WNSP on Mobile The company released a statement Thursday morning without providing further details about the dispute.
“I think the question you should ask is [superintendent Martin]Propst explained the board's reasons for the vote: “All I know is we had a really good practice today and there was really good energy. We had some administration and board members here today and everyone left with a really positive vibe. It was one of the best practices we've had.”
“This morning, a new day begins… As a football coach, you have to understand: You can't change what happened yesterday, but you can change what happens tomorrow with the actions you take today.”
The exact reasons that led Pell City's superintendent to fire Propst remain a mystery. Propst said he, the program, players, parents and administration are “moving forward.”
