One of Sacramento, California's major bridges was transformed into an elegant dining venue on Sunday night for an annual event celebrating the city's culinary culture.
The five-course “Tower Bridge Dinner” was cooked by five of the city's top chefs and reportedly attracted hundreds of guests.
“We've basically been preparing for the last four days for this party of several hundred people,” said Brock McDonald of Beast and Bounty restaurant. said CBS News.
The event became one of the city's most prestigious culinary events, essentially transforming the historic Tower Bridge into an open-air restaurant.
“This is probably the largest culinary event in Sacramento,” McDonald said.
Proceeds from the dinner will be donated to Sacramento State students who are the children of migrant farmworkers. The fund helps provide educational opportunities.
While the city was celebrating its culinary scene, another Sacramento project went awry: The newly constructed Del Rio Trail bridge, which was supposed to connect a popular bike and pedestrian path, was damaged due to construction flaws and deemed unusable, CBS News reported. Reported Tuesday.
“The bottom line is, the bridge wasn't built right. If you go there, you can see the core samples that were taken,” said Christina Rogers, president of the Land Park Neighborhood Association. City engineers are calling for the bridge to be removed and rebuilt. (Related article: Why rebuilding the Baltimore Bridge may take longer than rebuilding the entire transcontinental railroad)
The mistake was reportedly caused by the use of unauthorized materials in the construction of the bridge: construction managers allegedly used lightweight concrete and substandard rebar in the bridge's construction.
