YUMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – It's time to run up Yuma County. One of our town's most treasured events will once again be at various locations as the 79th Annual Yuma Silver Spa Rodeo prepares to take place.
The Yuma Silver Spur Rodeo has plenty to offer, from watching professional rodeo cowboys to entertainment such as bull riding, livestock, motocross, and barrel racing.
Children also participate in Mutton Bustin', an event similar to bull riding or bronc riding, but this time the little ones ride and race sheep.
“There is no other professional sport where the commentators are the play-by-play announcers, so I was able to do just that and share with about 4,000 of my friends in the audience,” said Bob Edmonds, announcer for the Yuma Silver Spa Rodeo. You can have a one-sided conversation.” “The way I get feedback is their reaction, whether it's to what I say or to the arena and the music involved. So this job is a great job.”
Edmonds has been a rodeo announcer for 25 years and is a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA).
2023 Yuma Silver Spa Rodeo Queen Brianna Hicks said this event is always special and representing Yuma County is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“I would say to any girl who wants to do this, just go for it,” Hicks says. “Work with the horses, talk to the current royal family. Just find someone to talk to you and help you get through this situation.”
