SAFFORD — On Monday, Safford City Council will be asked if bingo should be played in the city.
The Council will consider two Bingo applications. One for Outreach Arizona and one for the Graham County Senior Center.
Outreach Arizona said in its application that it will lease the Copper Steer Steakhouse’s banquet room for bingo games. Lease payments are $1 per month for the first 6 months and 5% of gross monthly sales for the remaining 6 months.
In its application, Outreach Arizona states that it will host bingo games five days a week (Friday through Tuesday) from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm.
Outreach Arizona has applied for a Class B bingo license to raise funds for charitable organizations. Holding a Class B license cannot exceed $500,000 in gross revenue annually and is taxed at 1.5%.
Outreach Arizona is a Safford-based non-profit organization whose mission is to “help community members with food, clothing, shelter and job training.”
SEACUS — Southeast Arizona Community Unique Service — is another applicant for a bingo license.
In its application, SEACUS says the senior center will hold bingo one day a week on Thursdays at 12:30 pm.
SEACUS is seeking a Class A bingo license. This is a recreational and social license, with gross revenue returned to players in the form of prizes. A Class A license holder will be taxed at his 2.5% of gross earnings not paid as prizes.
SEACUS provides in-home services such as housekeeping, shopping and personal care, in addition to services for the elderly such as wheelchair meals and group meals at senior centers.
The City Council’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Arizona Department of Revenue for final action.
The City Council will meet on Monday, May 8th at 6:00 pm in the Programming Room of the Graham County Library in Safford.
