Salt River Project (SRP) and Enlight Company Clēnera have announced a Power Purchase Agreement for an additional 394 megawatts (MW) of clean energy at the CO Bar Solar Project in Arizona. This contract is his second contract between Crenella and his SRP in the CO Bar complex, bringing his total SRP procurement from the project to nearly 800 MW.
CO Bar Solar is a 1.2 GW solar and storage complex under development by Clēnera and is expected to be one of the largest in the United States. The project is estimated to offset more than £4 billion of his CO2 emissions each year when it becomes operational in 2025.
The agreement marks an important step for SRP to quadruple its utility-scale solar capacity over the next two years. By the end of 2025, nearly half of all energy supplied to SRP customers will come from carbon-free sources.
The CO Bar Solar project will occupy up to 2,400 acres on private land in Coconino County and is expected to begin construction in the fourth quarter of 2023. Around 550 construction jobs are expected to be created.
In addition to its commitment to renewable resources, SRP has invested in over 1,100 MW of battery projects, which are expected to be operational by the end of 2024. With these efforts, SRP aims to meet its sustainability goals and generate more than 75% of its energy. from carbon-free sources by the end of 2035.
The Salt River Project is a community-based, not-for-profit utility utility and the largest utility in the Phoenix metropolitan area, serving approximately 1.1 million customers.
Clēnera, a subsidiary of Enlight Renewable Energy, develops, finances, constructs, owns and operates enterprise-scale renewable energy projects across the United States.
