The San Diego Padres, a minor league affiliate, won 2-5 on Tuesday.

Here is a summary of what happened that day.

El Paso Chihuahuas (lost 7-6 to Oklahoma City Dodgers) (36-55 season)

Nolan Watson: 4.2 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 2 K (68 Pitch, 48 Strike)

Preston Tucker: (1/3), R, HR, RBI, 2 BB

Oscar Mercado: (3-in-5), R, 3B, 2 RBI

Ray-Patrick Dider: (4v2), 2R, 2B, SB

Preston Tucker opened the scoring Tuesday with his 11th homer of the season to right-center. The RBI not only gave El Paso the win, but it was Tucker’s first base since returning from the disabled list on July 14. Ryan Ward hit a home run on the second to tie the game. El Paso regained the lead in the third. Luis Liberato scored first with an out-of-frame double. Two batters later, former goalkeeper and Cardinal Oscar Mercado hit a triple on Liberato with a sharp line drive to left field. Brett Sullivan’s sacrifice fly extended the lead to 3-1.

Ray Patrick Dider doubled in the fifth. He will come back and score on a wild pitch. However, Chihuahua’s pitching collapsed and he allowed 17 hits. Michael Bush hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning to tie the game. In the second half of the game, Ward hit Miguel Vargas to close out an RBI single that gave the Dodgers the win.

San Antonio Missions (lost 6-2 to Frisco Roughriders) (43-42 season)

Ryan Burgert: 3 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 2 HBP, 3 K (66 pitches, 36 strikes)

Jackson Merrill: (1/5), RBI

Juan Fernandez: (1/3), R, BB, SB

Ryan Burgert made his Double-A debut on Tuesday with mixed results. Luisangel Acuna doubled in the first inning. Evan Carter followed with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Bergato seemed to find his way after two scoreless frames. But Frisco closed in on him again in the fourth, scoring twice to make it 4-1.

Carter hit a home run in the fifth inning, his ninth of the year, and had two for three with three runs scored and two walks. In the seventh inning, Jackson Merrill hit a RBI.

Fort Wayne Tincaps (8-5 loss to Lake County Captains) (44-41 season)

Robbie Snelling: 2 IP, 4 H, 4 R (3 ER), 2 BB, 4 K (51 pitches, 27 strikes)

Graham Polley: (1 in 5), R, HR, 2 RBI, SB

Anthony Villar: (4-2), 2R, HR, RBI

Jakob Marsay: (2/3), R, 2 BB, 2 SB

Robbie Snelling dominated for most of this season. Elite candidates always have their ups and downs and we have to see how they react. Unfortunately for Tincaps, that day came on Tuesday. Jake Fox took the lead on a Lake County single. Snelling allowed consecutive doubles and took one strikeout. Later in the inning, Nate Furman hit a double.

It was the first time Snelling allowed four runs in one game and the second time he allowed three earned runs. The young left arm recovered in the second inning and scored two strikeouts without allowing any runs. But his day ended there thanks to a stressful first inning. Edwin Bencomo also had 13 hits for Lake County, allowing three earned runs in two innings. In the third inning, Graham Polley tied the game with a two-run run that would make him a candidate for Player of the Year.

Fort Wayne finally started to pick up form, and in the sixth, Polley came from behind and hit a home run to make it 8-3. In the second half of the game, Anthony Villar hit his first home run after being promoted to High A. Jakob Marsee stole two bases in the game and will have 33 stolen bases in the 2023 season.

Lake Elsinore Storm (beat Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 9-8) (40-42 season)

Fernando Sanchez: 4 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, HBP, 2 K (65 pitched, 41 strike)

Tyler Robertson: (4-2), 3R, 2HR, 2 RBI, 2BB, SB

Ethan Salas: (3-for-6), 3B, RBI

Rothman Verdugo: (1/4), R, 2B, RBI, BB, SB

Lake Elsinore gave up eight runs and had runners in scoring position offensively, going 2-of-19. Rancho Cucamonga scored four runs in the fifth, including a 3-run homer off Nick Thwaites to Luis Rodriguez to lead 7-4. Rodriguez had 3 for 5, scored 2, and scored 6. It turned out that Tuesday’s storm was just too lucky to have disaster on most nights.

Tyler Robertson hit two home runs in the fifth and eighth innings to tie the game. In the 10th inning, Wilman Diaz singled over left and Rodriguez scored to give the Quakes an 8–7 lead. Later in the inning, the Storm had the bases loaded on a walk by Samuel Zavala to tie the game.

A 17-year-old boy was standing on the deck. Most of the time, this is an easy out, but luckily for Storm, he had Ethan Salas in the on-deck circle. Salas rocketed into the midfield wall and walked for his third hit of the game. Salas is currently batting .280/.388/.500 with 15 extra base hits and 28 RBIs in 34 games.

DSL Padres Brown (5-4 win over DSL Arizona Red) (12-18 season)

Josmar Acevedo: 5.1 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 2 K

Nestor Chevalier: (3 in 5), 2 RBI

Joao Sierra: (2/4), R, HBP

Arizona struck first on Tuesday. After a double and single, Jean Zapata flew to center to make it 1-0. In the second inning, Ezequiel Srun hit a double to the left field line to score Andy Encarnacion. Encarnacion hit a home run in the fourth to make it 3–0, but the Padres fought back late in the inning. The Padres teamed up to develop a two-out rally, and Nestor Chevalier and William Santana scored back-to-back RBIs to make it 3-2.

Josmar Acevedo conceded three runs in 5.1 innings, the longest of his career so far. The Padres entered the ninth inning trailing 4-3. The bases were loaded with consecutive walks and hit by pitches. Two hitters later, Chevalier grounded out short, but Arizona second baseman Anderson Colmenares threw the ball away and allowed the second baseman to score as the Padres walked him out.

DSL Padres Gold (lost to DSL Orioles Orange) (18-12 season)

Adan Moreno: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K

Ismael Javier: (1/4), 2B

Kevin Heysen: (1 in 4), RBI

Luis de Leon: (2v2), R, 2 BB

Most of Tuesday’s game was 1-2-3 after 1-2-3, the ultimate pitchers’ duel. In Baltimore, Cesar Espinal pitched four scoreless innings, struck out four, and held the Padres to just two hits. In San Diego, Adan Moreno locked the Orioles five frames and allowed just one hit. The 18-year-old from Mexico has a 3.26 ERA in eight games of the season.

Ellis Cuevas took the lead in the bottom of the seventh with his second double of the game. The Orioles also followed with three straight singles, ultimately leading to a four-run inning. Three walks and two singles allowed the Padres to return two runs in the eighth inning and cut the lead in half. Luis de Leon got on base four times in the game.

ACL Padres (lost 11-6 to ACL Giants Black) (17-14 season)

Zak Chin: 3 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K

Juan Murillo: (2 vs 5), 2R

Carlos Rodriguez: (2 for 4), 2 RBI

Alan Camo: (1/4), R, RBI, BB

The Padres looked to be on the mend from Tuesday’s first round. Juan Murillo singled to left. Lamar King Jr. followed, advancing to third base on a single from right. King will steal two and put Romeo Sanabria on the mound. The Padres first baseman flew to the left field seat and brought Sanabria home, but King was thrown to third base, ending the rally.

The Giants came from behind with 11 points, including two long balls. The Padres made the game interesting by scoring four in the eighth inning and another in the ninth.
