San Francisco Giants Lock In Matt Chapman With 6-Year, $151 Million Contract Extension

Matt Chapman is not something we'll see in free agency.

The San Francisco Giants Elite third baseman The two sides agreed to a six-year contract extension worth $151 million on Wednesday night, a move that allowed the Giants to deny Chapman the opportunity to opt out of his current contract with the team and become a free agent.

Chapman's new deal will start in 2025 and replace the final two seasons of his current contract, which he signed in 2024. That deal was for three years and $54 million. ESPNBut the new deal doesn't include any deferred money and includes a full no-trade clause. Chapman will be 37 when his contract expires in 2030. Now 31 years old, Chapman has excelled both at the plate and defensively, making him one of the best players in the entire MLB in terms of production.

Chapman is currently batting .247 with a .333 on-base percentage and a .445 slugging percentage, good for an OPS 21% higher than the major league average. Chapman leads the San Francisco Giants in both categories with 22 home runs and 56 extra-base hits. He's also been effective defensively, likely to win the Platinum Glove this season, and has already won four Gold Gloves in his career.
