SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The City of San Luis will replace 5,000 water meters with the help of a $2 million grant from the Arizona Water Infrastructure Authority.
Miguel Ramirez, financial and accounting manager, said: “Right now, we're monitoring the numbers every month, so if there's something wrong, we go to the house and check, and with this new system we can check directly from the office. It will become so.”
Before the new meters were installed, leaks could go unnoticed for weeks, but now the city is notified immediately.
Mayor Nieves Riedel explained why it will benefit everyone in San Luis.
“Water is like gold and now it's like legal tender, so it's going to be a huge help for everyone…especially our residents,” Mayor Riedel said.
The city will have to pay about $650,000 to cover the remaining costs.
The Mayor shares how much money these new water meters will save residents.
“It's very cost-effective for residents, because typically by the time they have a water leak and they come, it's already too late and no one could have discovered the problem in time, which would have cost them hundreds of dollars. , because they will be charged a fee of Riedel.
The city plans to begin replacing water meters in about two to three months and complete the replacement in about two years.
