SARAH PARSHALL PERRY: On The Anniversary Of Title IX, Feminism’s Promises Ring Hollow

In the late 19th century, when elite institutions like Harvard recognized only men, the “seven sisters” liberal arts college was founded on the premise that women needed their own education equivalent to Ivy League education. When in 1927, when an individual school consortium was formally recognized as “seven sisters,” the notion that women’s education should be on par with men’s level was indeed radical. Today, out of the seven originals, five of the Mount Hole York, Wellesley, Brynmaul, Bernard and Smith’s only sex.

Or they say. On this anniversary of Title IX of the 1972 Education Amendment (Civil Rights Act to Guaranteed Sexual Equality in Education), some women’s universities seem to have forgotten their history of interest in infringing enrollment policies rather than tradition.

Smith College is one of them.

Ten years ago, Smith College was the subject of an iron-fisted transgender public relations campaign to recognize all trans “women” in the ranks of women. After discussions and discrepancies, community listening sessions and planning meetings, research committees and legal disputes, Smith’s resolve to keep the legacy of all women intact was broken. May 2015, University announcement A new admission policy that includes transgender “female” (biological men) based on the evolving concept of female identity and the “diversity of women’s living experiences.” As expected, gender-neutral bathrooms, locker rooms, residential accommodations Next.

But with an evil twist while the university chose to acknowledge the man she identified as a woman. I refused To recognize a woman identified as a male.

why? To do that – Can’t choose who can engage in gender play. Would the kind of person trying to convey an ontological reality other than pronouns, names, or outfits ultimately make the institution “co-edited”?

This is a type of arbitrary line drawing that Title IX was handed over 53 years ago and prevented. And institutions like Smith may be paid for review.

Once the promise of vote was fulfilled by early suffrages like Susan B. Anthony, feminists in the second wave turned their attention to other iterations of gender equality. Gloria Steinems and Bella Abzugs descended on Capitol Hill, demanding equal employment and equal wages.

But their best achievement was probably Title IX. This is a simple, one-paragraph federal ban on sexism in federally funded educational programs, such as hospitalizations, scholarships, residential accommodation, and sports. The women finally won the vote, were released from domestic sex and banned sex discrimination in employment, but education was held responsible for inequality for seven sisters and several likes. But after 250 versions of the House and Senate Education Bill, public pressure campaigns, and a series of passionate floor debates, Title IX was born.

So, in 53, third wave feminists failed us. The institutions that once stood out for our equal education have failed us. They sacrificed women’s equality to the altar of male equity identified. They believe that gender is performative, gender representation is illusion, and “natural sex” is temporary. These feminists – Judith Butlers and Gloria Anzalus – have given us the poison of “strange theory” and set up a battle between men and women who play in real time on campuses around the country.

We modern women have won votes for over 100 years and have been considered in many segments of male society over the centuries. Skin and bones – We must recognize that third wave feminism has given away the ground that our grandmother and great grandmothers have brought along the generations they claim. We should not trust our own eyes, call for discrimination in places where it hides in obvious vision, and identify chow hanganism platformed by the compatibility of sex.I can’t rely on it. ”

This past spring, the “Women’s University” Smith was held at an exhibition of the Alliance to the Trans Community. Granted An honorary degree and opening speech slot for the man identified as transgender, Admiral “Rachel” Levine. Platform Smith’s Choice Levine conveyed a clear message. This man is a woman. Title IX is cursed.

Our great grandmother will be appalled.

So we asked the Department of Education’s Civil Rights Office to launch a survey to determine whether Smith College actually protects women, where equal education was once a top priority.
