The Lake Havasu City Police Department would like to inform the community about a recently reported locally reported scam.
In this scam, the caller pretends to be a representative of the Mojave County Sheriff’s Office or another government agency. The caller identification number appears to be an official law enforcement phone number, suggesting the caller has an arrest warrant from Mojave County.
The caller indicates to the recipient that this writ can be processed by purchasing a cryptocurrency voucher. The caller then asks for the bill number for payment and may require the recipient to call the Mojave County Sheriff’s Office District Substation at 3500 SR95.
This is a scam. Scammers use a fraudulent technique called “spoofing” to make your caller ID look like a local number or even an official law enforcement phone number. If you didn’t call yourself, be hesitant and be careful with the information you provide to the caller.
The Lake Havasu Police Department is urging communities to report these scam calls and be aware that scammers are constantly coming up with new ways to get their money out of them. Never give your address, phone number, bank number, credit card number, social security number, or any other personal information to someone who calls you.
