For 40 years, I have been involved in education as a teacher, coach, and mentor. I have watched the school choice movement grow and change the lives of many students. In recent weeks, I am proud to have realized that: National School Choice Week in senate chamberhost a Symposium Together with parents from all over the country, magnet school in Huntsville.
When I first entered the world of education 40 years ago, I didn't have the opportunity to choose a school. Homeschooling was very rare, but public schools were in better shape at the time.
Today, about 3 million children People across our country are being homeschooled. Homeschooling is the fastest growing form of education in America.
This trend is on the rise as parents realize that our schools are failing their children. I have seen with my own eyes the decline of the education system. I have visited schools, parents, and principals in 49 states and American Samoa. It's time for lawmakers across the country to recognize that schools are failing.
Education is the main reason I am running for the United States Senate. Education is not just a local issue, it is a national issue. There's no denying that our K-12 education system is in crisis because of job protections and teacher unions.we spend more money The United States has better education than any other country. But we are not number one. It's too bad we aren't even close.
we pay $16,000 per student In public schools and public schools in this country. The average for developed countries is $12,000. We spend over 30 percent more money, but our test scores aren't 30 percent higher; they're much lower.we Ranked 34th in the world in mathematics. If you can't do math, you won't be able to survive in today's technological world. If we want to compete in today's high-tech economy, we need to improve mathematics education.
So what is school choice? School choice means funding students instead of school buildings. Currently, we spend all our money on school buildings, teachers, and administration instead of actual students.
Our education system does not exist for teachers, principals, administrators, or even coaches. It's not about our teachers union. It's about equipping the next generation of Americans. It's about giving them a chance for a better and brighter future.
Competition makes everyone better. Whether it's soccer, business or just life. Competition makes us all better. Children deserve the best teachers. If we had more school options in this country, perhaps some schools would focus on teaching children to read instead of indoctrinating them.
After all, the key to the American Dream is education. In our country, you cannot survive without being able to read and write. In the end, they will have to survive on government benefits. And that's not what this country is about. Our future is built on our children. If we don't educate our children, we won't have a great future.
We know that there are many issues going on in the world today, and that there is a lot of division in our country. However, there is nothing that young people cannot achieve if they unleash their potential.
