US Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent said on Thursday that Fox business host Larry Kudrow emulates “numbskull” like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau could see higher tariffs from the US.
President Donald Trump announced Monday that he would cite the new tariffs in Canada, Mexico and China, and that “a huge amount of fentanyl” would be poured into the United States. After paying attention to Trudeau’s rebels responseurged world leaders to negotiate during an interview with Kudlow at a New York economic club. “As President Trump has said many times, “tariffs” is his favorite word. “Mutual” is probably his second favorite word. And I think we should be open to this idea. If you become a Numbskull like Justin Trudeau and say, ‘Oh, we’re trying to do this,’ then it’s going to do that – the tariffs will go up,’ Bessent told Kudlow. “But if you want to sit down, talk with USTR of the Commerce Department. They all have my phone number too. I’m happy to talk with foreigners who say, “Here’s something I think you’re doing.” And tariffs are the simple part of the matter. Because we know India is doing this on American motorcycles. Germany does this – or the EU does this with American cars. It’s a quantitative number. ”

After a conversation with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Trump delayed the imposition of tariffs on Mexico and thanked her for “hard work.” Bescent said it’s not just the barriers facing tariffs.
“But also what is the non-tariff barrier? Apple cannot sell new iPhone 16 due to Indonesia’s local content laws. Are you operating your currency? Are you restraining its value? Are you unfairly subsidizing a selected industry through bank lending or labour market suppression?” Bescent asked.
Bessent also said the European Union has fined or threatened to impose or threaten American tech companies such as Apple, Google and X, previously known as Twitter. “What’s been attracting our attention lately is that the EU is throwing these huge fines at high-tech companies in the US. It’s also a non-tariff barrier,” Bescent told Kudlow. “So, we’ll see that and then talk about what happens to each other. It’s a lot of that will come out on April 2nd. And we’ll do – it’ll become a pass-dependent based on our trading partners and there’s a debate. When Prime Minister Kiel Starmer and Team Britain were in the White House on Thursday, we had a very good discussion about what we’re getting.
