As someone who enjoys nine hours of football every Sunday, I think this is fantastic.
The legendary television show “NFL RedZone” has become a staple for football fans on Sundays over the years, and now the mega-popular show is having an impact on the league's schedule. Speaking to WFAN in New York on Tuesday, RedZone host Scott Hanson shared some great news:
On most Sundays, there are more games played in the early afternoon than in the late afternoon, and as the season progresses, especially during bye weeks, the number of games played in the late afternoon slots becomes much fewer. (Related: Travis Kelce buys a racehorse named Swift Delivery)
Now, in an interview with WFAN, Hanson said that that little issue has been resolved, and going forward, at least three games will be played in the late afternoon slot.
“We had Zoom meetings in the offseason with all the NFL executives and we were preparing for the regular season,” Hanson explained. “And this year, the schedule writers specifically mentioned the NFL Red Zone and said, 'We're not going to have two delayed games.' The minimum number of delayed games is three. And there are a lot of weeks where we have four or five games in a delayed time slot. And they did us a favor because two delayed games for red zone purposes means death.”
