Scott Jennings Enjoys Opportunity to ‘Eulogize’ Stephen Colbert’s ‘Garbage’ Program

Stephen Colbert’s Show to End in May 2026

Republican strategist Scott Jennings expressed his satisfaction on Friday following the announcement that CBS late-night host Stephen Colbert will stop working as of May 2026.

CBS revealed on Thursday that Colbert’s show would conclude in May 2026, stating it was not financially viable. During his “Scott Jennings Radio Show,” Jennings requested the show’s tech crew to play Sara McLachlan’s “Angel” to set the tone for what he described as a “eulogy” for Colbert’s program.

“What’s the latest in big media? Let’s set the mood with some music. We have to pay tribute to my friend Stephen Colbert,” Jennings said as the song, commonly heard in commercials, began to play.

Jennings shared Colbert’s cancellation news with a studio audience during “The Late Show” on Thursday night, before he began to mock the late-night host.

“How bad is it for your job when they not only fire you but also make sure no one else can take your place?” Jennings remarked, implying that Colbert would be remembered negatively in the context of David Letterman’s legacy.

“Just look at who’s upset about this. It tells you everything about the cancellation. Elizabeth Warren is angry and even wants a Congressional investigation,” Jennings added. “Stacey Abrams is also upset. It’s disappointing news; I’ve been on that show four times. Only Stacey could turn this into a personal narrative.”

Meanwhile, CBS faced criticism over a $10 billion lawsuit initiated by former President Donald Trump related to an October 2024 interview with then-President Kamala Harris, a rival in the presidential race. Elizabeth Warren described the settlement as a form of censorship.

“Let’s remember that Stacey has appeared on Colbert’s show four times. Are people really surprised they don’t want to support this anymore?” Jennings quipped.
