Scott Jennings Provokes CNN Panel by Discussing Why Democrats Are Losing Voters

Panel Discussion on Voter Trends and Immigration Policies

A left-leaning panelist expressed frustration on Wednesday after Republican strategist Scott Jennings articulated reasons behind the Republicans gaining over 4 million net voters since the 2020 election. He noted that, while Democratic voter registrations dropped by 2.1 million across 30 states, Republican registrations increased by 2.4 million. Jennings attributed this shift to Democratic stances on issues like illegal immigration, crime, and their responses to pro-Hamas protests, particularly after the recent Hamas attacks that resulted in over 1,200 deaths in Israel.

“I think Democrats are losing voters because they’re focusing on the wrong issues,” Jennings remarked. “It seems they care more about illegal aliens than about law-abiding American citizens. When they take these positions, people tend to gravitate towards the alternative.”

Democrat strategist Allencia Johnson quickly countered, asserting, “That’s not true. You know it’s not necessarily accurate.”

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump issued several executive orders on January 20, 2025, targeting illegal immigration. He classified Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua, El Salvador’s MS-13, and Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. The Democratic Party has opposed Trump’s initiatives, initiating multiple lawsuits against his orders.

Adam Mockler, a content creator for Meidastouch, questioned whether any mainstream Democrats had openly expressed support for illegal immigration. Jennings mentioned Chris Van Hollen, to which Mockler retorted, “Did he? Van Hollen never said that.”

Maryland Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen, along with other Democrats, called for the return of MS-13 members like Kilmer Abrego Garcia after their deportation to El Salvador. Van Hollen had visited Garcia at the prison where he was held in April.

“He met Kilmer Abrego Garcia, who was brought back to the US,” Mockler maintained. “The administration has acknowledged that Garcia was wrongfully deported. So, that’s not accurate regarding Van Hollen.”

Garcia returned to the United States on June 6th and faced federal charges in Nashville. He was previously arrested by Tennessee police on suspicions of human trafficking during a traffic stop, but he was released in 2022 following a request from the Biden administration’s FBI.
