Sean Duffy Says Feds Won’t Invest If Cities ‘Don’t Clean Up’ Act, Slams One Particular Governor Over Failed Transit

Transport Secretary Sean Duffy appeared on Fox News on Friday, saying his department would not invest in cities that don’t “clean” public transport systems.

New York officials have tried to crack down on subway crimes by increasing the presence of police as of April 2024, following a string of shootings and attacks in the transport system. In “Ingraham’s Angle,” host Laura Ingraham asked Duffy what the “truth” lies behind the issue after Democrat Mayor Eric Adams said there was a decline in crime.

“So the truth is that it’s dangerous to cross America, right? These liberal mayors, they want everyone to get into the train from the car. But they’re not safe, so no one really wants them to ride,” Duffy said. “Listen, I know a lot of people in New York, they can transport or take the subway during the day, but in the morning or at night, even big men don’t want to take the subway at night.”

“The mayor showed they’ve made some progress. I have other statistics that they haven’t, but the mayor sent more law enforcement officers into the subway system. But this is really a failure of the New York governor,” Duffy added.

On Friday, Adams took Duffy to New York City’s public transport, and NYPD Transit chief Joseph Grotta said subway crimes hit a historic low thanks to an increase in police presence. According to To ABC7 NY. (Related: Eric Adams throws out primary to seek reelection if he is independent)

Duffy went on to say that Hochul hasn’t done anything about “how to spend money, how much goes about security, how beautiful and secure it is, how beautiful and safe it is.”

“They have homeless people who live and live in the subway, so that’s not acceptable. We at the Department of Transport actually partner with a lot of transportation systems across the country,” Duffy said. “We give them a lot of federal taxpayer money to help them run their systems.”

“Our position is, if you don’t wipe out your actions, we’re not going to invest in you. If you’re doing it well and you have a beautiful train that’s safe on time, we’ll make those investments as taxpayers.

Hochul I said In January, new initiatives will be added to protect subway riders and transport workers.

“Again, they have options. I started sending Doge to the MTA and seeing how to actually spend money, seeing fraud, waste, abuse, and pulling it out and making these projects more efficient and cost-effective,” Duffy says.
