NewsNation political commentator Sean Spicer expressed surprise Wednesday when fellow commentator A. Scott Bolden described a CNN interview with Vice President Kamala Harris and running mate Gov. Tim Walz as a strong move.
The interview, conducted with CNN anchor Dana Bash, was Harris' first since launching her 2024 presidential campaign on July 21. While Bolden of “NewsNation Now with Nicole Burley” argued that Harris's appearance with Waltz rather than alone showed “strength,” Spicer countered that it showed the vice president couldn't even handle a friendly interview “on his own.”(Related: Kamala Harris fails to distance herself from left-wing 2020 campaign despite aides' best efforts)

“I anticipate that at some point she'll sit down one-on-one with Dana Bash for an interview that will air, and at some point Tim Waltz will do a joint interview with her,” Bolden said. “But that's not a weakness. In fact, it's a strength. My No. 2 has a lot to say and shows that we are partners and we're moving forward together. So I don't see it as a weakness at all.”
“They use their preferred pronouns. So let's be honest about what happened. She said she was going to be interviewed, and now they're the ones being interviewed. She can't do this alone,” Spicer said. “She wants to be commander in chief. It's CNN after all. This isn't hard. This is easy. Give me a break… this is pathetic.”
Harris also neglected to release a campaign platform. Website Since announcing her 2024 presidential bid, Vice President Harris' campaign has faced intense scrutiny over her back-and-forth on key issues such as fracking.
Former President Donald Trump's campaign argued that Harris' incompetence was the reason for the joint interview.
“BREAKING: On Thursday, 39 days after becoming the Democratic nominee, Kamala will give her first formal interview,” the Trump War Room reported. Posts Regarding X. “It's collaborative because she doesn't have the ability to do it herself. Recording it gives her entourage time to do damage control.”
NewsNation host Chris Cuomo said on his podcast Thursday that Harris is avoiding the media because she is weaker than past Democratic presidential candidates.
“They wouldn't have done that with Bill Clinton, they wouldn't have done that with Hillary Clinton, they wouldn't have done that with Barack Obama, because they felt there was no risk in putting these people in the chair,” Cuomo said.
