Sedona brothers scammed government out of over $100M in COVID-19 relief funds

The two Arizona brothers pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit wire fraud about their roles when scaming the federal government for more than $100 million in Covid-19 relief funds.

Sedona’s Eric and Anthony Calnetis plead guilty in two separate cases on March 20th in the US District Court in Oregon.

The scheme occurred in both 2021 and 2022, involving a sibling submitting hundreds of fraudulent pay protection program loan applications based on false payroll information and tax documents, according to a statement from the Oregon State Lawyer’s Office.

The judicial agreement signed by the brothers requires the repayment of tens of millions of dollars in compensation and forfeiture of criminally derived proceeds and property, according to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.

Each brother faces up to 20 years in prison. Their ruling was scheduled for June.
