sedona news – The Sedona Heritage Museum will host an authentic Chuck Wagon Dinner and a screening of classic western movies made in Sedona at the museum on Saturday, April 29th.
Award-winning Chuck Wagon chef Bill Cowan and his crew present a delicious menu of beef stew, biscuits and apple cobblers from M Bar Lazy B Chuck Wagon. The entire meal is cooked over a well seasoned cast iron open fire. Cowan has won notable cook-offs from Chandler to Ruidoso, and has participated in Chuckwagon cook-offs in Arizona and West.
Guests can watch the food being prepared in the “cookie” method used to prepare cowboy meals at the bull runs and roundups around Sedona. Cowan’s Chuck Wagon will be on display for a look at the historically accurate Chuck Wagon, the world’s first “food truck.” Musical entertainment during meal preparation is provided by Reno and Sheila McCormick in a subdued style of bluegrass, folk, country and western.
The cook yells at people, “Come and get it!” 5pm. Guests enjoy beer at Apple’s Shed, and after dinner there is a special screening of her 1952 film Indian Uprising. The film, which features George Montgomery as a cavalry officer trying to keep peace between Geronimo and the white settlers, was shot in a dozen locations in and around Sedona. It was praised for its empathetic and respectful portrayal of Native Americans.
