sedona news – The Sedona Historical Society (SHS) will host an evening of entertainment and wine tasting at the Sedona Heritage Museum on Saturday, March 4 from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. This tasting is in partnership with Page Springs Cellars and the winemakers of ‘Vin de Filles’ wines, 100% women-produced wines.
The evening begins with wine and food under the auspices of the hostess, Sedona’s namesake Sedona Schnebly. With a role played by local entertainer Shondra Jeperson, guests are introduced to her personal insight into the story of Schnebly and how she fits her temperance work into the evening’s theme .
A special feature of this event is the tasting of limited edition Vins de Feuille wines and the sharing of their stories by female winemakers. Born in 2020, this unique wine has a mission to ‘mark the vitality and feminine strength of the world of wine’. Due to limited bottling, the Vin de Feuille will be gone until the next harvest.
Guests can enjoy tastings, a delicious finger food spread, tasting tables of other Page Springs Cellars wines, and the opportunity to meet and interact with others who appreciate Arizona wines.
The event will feature professional actress Elizabeth Ware, known for her solo performances, in her one-man show “A Woman by Design.” This is the appeal of her Mary Colter, the architect and designer of the Fred Harvey Company and the Santa Fe Railroad, chief of her many landmark buildings and public spaces, especially in Grand Canyon National Park and her La Posada in Winslow. It’s a character study.
Coulter was a strong-willed woman who was inspired by an artistic passion to “become a kind of interpreter of nature rather than overwhelming it.” Ware brings a unique perspective to the timeless tale of a woman struggling to establish herself in the male-dominated world of early 20th century architecture. Ware portrays Colter on her stage in Her Three Lives. She’s an uncertain young art student, a self-taught architect, and an 88-year-old woman facing the sale or abandonment of a major project.
The evening concludes with a live auction of gift paintings and gift baskets filled with wine-themed items from Sedona businesses, ranging from fine art to gift certificates for local resorts, restaurants and specialty tour companies. will be
Tickets are limited and available in advance at SedonaMuseum.org for $100 per person. Proceeds will be used to preserve the Schuurman Homestead House, a historic property owned by SHS. Schuermans was the largest commercial wine producer in Northern Arizona from the 1880s until Arizona Prohibition was enacted. Their stories, told through their homes, are early tales of the Territory’s long wine heritage. Last year, SHS hosted a similar sold-out event, featuring his first Schuurmann wine in over 100 years made from descendants of the original vines.
The Vin de Filles on offer were purchased by a longtime supporter of SHS. The donation was donated directly to the Verde Valley Sanctuary (VVS) at the request of the winemaker. VVS is a local non-profit organization that helps women involved in domestic abuse, assault and trafficking.
