Incident at Green Tree Inn: Active Shooter Status Update

Authorities responded to a situation at the Green Tree Inn, located at 2991 W. SR 89A, between El Camino Road and Deer Trail Drive in West Sedona. An employee reported being evacuated due to directives from local law enforcement.

The Verde Valley Regional SWAT team has been deployed to the scene.

The incident was reported around 11:50 AM on Sunday, July 27th, with nearly a dozen law enforcement agencies present in the hotel’s north parking lot, cordoned off with police tape.

Traffic on State Route 89A near West Sedona remains unaffected, but residents should steer clear of adjacent roads.

According to Sedona Communications Manager, Lauren Brown, a male caller reached 911 at 10:24 AM, expressing suicidal intentions and mentioning he had a firearm while inside a room at the Greenlee Inn.

Responding swiftly, Sedona police officers arrived moments later and subsequently contacted the Verde Valley Regional SWAT team. By 12:32 PM, officers began evacuating the Green Tree Inn along with nearby businesses and personnel.

When police entered the hotel room around 1:05 PM, they found the man, and local paramedics initiated life-saving measures. Unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead at the scene from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The shelter in place order has since been lifted.

The investigation is ongoing, and updates are expected.
