Sedona Police Cadets compete at the Chandler Tactical Competition

Sedona Police cadets competed in the Chandler Tactics Competition on Saturday and Sunday, January 14-15, pitted against 50 teams backed by 43 law enforcement agencies in seven states.

Cadets are advised by Sedona Police Department Catherine Beers and SPD School Resource Officer Michael Lucas.

Sedona’s eight cadets included Sgt. Adrian Javy, Hunter White, Alexandro Molina, Cristal Diaz Lopez, Emmanuel Sanchez, Ali Tedric, Ryan Puff, and Ivan Maurzel have worked on the Sniper Challenge, Tactical Emergency Medical Assistance, Terrorist Takeover, Crisis Negotiation, Drug Raid, Pistol Shoot, Virtra Decision Shoot, Vertical Assault, Bungy Challenge.

Javy won the 5th place trophy in the Bungy Challenge. He called this “his one-on-one tug-of-war as a fitness challenge.”

Cadets are judged on various criteria, including pace and speed of the competition.overall planning and execution of the mission, including

contingency planning; safety, muzzle control, use of covers and concealment when using simulated firearms; time to complete the event. Communication and teamwork between group members.Identification of threats or threat areas; actions taken in response to threats; decision-making; presence of command; and leadership

“I only took home one trophy this year,” Beers said. “But we brought back a lot of lessons, knowledge and experience. I’m looking forward to seeing how it develops into a strong team.”

Events are selected and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis by registration time, Beers said. “Our three strongest events, Officer Down, 5-Man Hostage Rescue Team, and High Risk Vehicle Stop, weren’t exactly what we needed to be in this year.

“We need to keep training and sign up early next year,” Beers said.

Cadet Organization is not an agency or city funded program.

“Thanks to your generous donation, we can continue training and competing. Special thanks to Pink Jeep Tours for providing transportation,” said Beals, adding, needs new equipment and funding,” he added.
