More specifically, the group of up to nine volunteers will meet at least three times this spring on the following topics:

  • City staff will provide an overview of the budget, and then community members who are members of the CBWG will provide valuable input on changes to programs and services and what community issues they would like to see addressed in the budget. encourage meaningful discussion.
  • City staff plans to submit a preliminary budget for next year to the CBWG. This includes the base budget request, estimated surplus funds available for priority programs and projects, significant capital improvement projects, and supplemental budget requests.
  • CBWG members will have the opportunity to review and provide recommendations before the preliminary budget, priorities, and additional requests are submitted to the City Manager or City Council.

The CBWG’s work will culminate in recommendations compiled for the City Manager and City Council. This will allow for more informed decision-making as we review and consider approving the 2026 budget.

Additionally, as part of the budget process, city staff will launch an online survey of all residents asking about a variety of community-wide issues that have a significant impact on the budget.

The City is asking Sedona residents interested in joining this year’s work group to apply by January 9, 2025, by filling out the volunteer survey at: sedonaaz.gov/volunteer-questionnaire. Be sure to check the box in the survey indicating your interest in ‘budget monitoring’ and share any relevant background information. No budget experience is required other than a general interest in the city’s budget process.

For more information, contact the city’s Special Initiatives Coordinator, Kegn Moorcroft, at kmoorcroft@sedonaaz.gov.
