Hummingbird Festival Highlights in Sedona

SEDONA, Arizona – This weekend, Sedona is celebrating the “Flying Jewels”—hummingbirds—with a special festival.

The 11th Annual Sedona Hummingbird Festival takes place from July 25th to July 27th. It features a variety of activities including a Hummingbird Garden Tour, bird watching, art displays, and even photography contests.

Alice Madhar from the International Hummingbird Association shared, “We provide a lot of great information on how to attract, enjoy and learn about hummingbirds. But we also celebrate the beauty and joy they bring.” It’s nice to see such enthusiasm for these remarkable creatures.

Madhar noted that while prepaid tickets are no longer available, there will still be tickets for purchase on the day of the event. Attendees can also check out the free Hummingbird Marketplace, and children’s activities featuring crafts, talks, and reptiles will be available on Saturday.

Sedona proudly hosts the International Hummingbird Association and is a hub for various hummingbird species. Arizona is home to at least 17 different types, according to state resources.

The Anna hummingbird, particularly famous for its vibrant magenta crown, is the most commonly spotted in Arizona. Another notable species is the Costa Hummingbird, where males flaunt a striking blue-purple hood while females are primarily green and gray.

“Their aerial displays and spirited nature really capture the crowd’s attention. Visitors often enjoy watching them around feeders and in the parks as they fiercely protect their territory,” remarked AZ State Parks on the Hummingbird Tracker website.
