Sedona Wolf Sanctuary combines spirituality and wildlife conservation

Sedona, Arizona (Az Family) – Yabapai County Sanctuary offers unique animal and spiritual experiences. Sedona Wolf Sanctuary It is the only sanctuary of its species in the United States, combining spirituality with wolves.

Twenty-five years ago, a woman known as the Healing Wolf created a wolf sanctuary just north of Montezuma’s castle, protecting animals and sacred lands used by Native Americans for hundreds of years.

“She wanted to create a space and space where you could practice wolves medicine,” Cynthia Heish said.

Three years ago, Cynthia Heisch and Xavier Douwes moved to Sedona and visited the sanctuary and experienced healing with the wolves.

“It was the moment that really started for me,” Dewes said. “I had a moment with one of the wolves here and it was very transformative.”

Since Healingwolf had aged, they have learned from her and are now CEO of Sedona Wolf Sanctuary.

“We are the only spiritually infused wolf sanctuary in this country and perhaps in the world,” Haish said.

Some of the wolves are over 10 years old and have been rescued from all over the country. But they said that without this sanctuary, their lives are only a part of it.

“If we had to take one of these wolves, they would die,” Dewes said. “90% of all wolves born in captivity die by the age of two.”

Sanctuaries also help visitors create their own healing experiences with wolves and the land. Heisch said their hope is that when people leave, they will give great gratitude to wolves and spirituality.

“Not only can we see people heal, our wolves heal. It’s the coexistence, the synergy of it, I think it’s so beautiful,” she said.
