The Mayor’s Arts Awards recognize four categories for exceptional contributions to the development and success of the arts in the community. The 2024 winners and their award categories are:

  • The individual award will be presented to Winnie Muench, founder and executive director of Sedona Chamber Ballet, for her vision and commitment to enriching the arts in Sedona for more than a decade. She brings world-class dance performance to the community and has trained and inspired over 250 students to lead performances of The Nutcracker. In addition to dance, Münch is known for other efforts celebrating a wide range of artistic mediums in film and festivals.
  • The award in the Business/Organization category goes to the Sedona Visual Artists Coalition. The organization has been dedicated to the arts for decades, elevating the artist community through education and exhibitions. A notable annual event is the Open Studio Self-Guided Tour, which allows the public to meet up to 50 artists and tour their studios. These tours are widely attended by many local residents and art enthusiasts from Arizona and the United States.
  • The teaching award goes to the Sedona Chamber Orchestra (CMS). For more than 40 years, CMS has been dedicated to advancing music in local schools through education, workshops, and concerts. Learn a variety of instruments, from baroque to modern instruments. World-class music teachers provide string programs, and members are invited to perform at Carnegie Hall. Financial support for after-school classes is also provided, enriching the musical and artistic lives of many students.
  • The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Susan Kriewer, a sculptor who is fascinated by the American West and has lived in Sedona for 55 years. One of her many notable works is the 10-foot Sedona Schnebly sculpture located at the Sedona Library. Kliewer’s influences include teaching art for 15 years, serving on the Public Places Art Committee for 16 years, and teaching clay classes to cancer patients. Her beautiful sculpture, Julian and Maria, will grace the Canyon Drive roundabout when it is completed this fall.

The evening includes a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres.
