Former MSNBC host Joy Reid was quite upset on Thursday as Piers Morgan confronted her by frequently invoking “race cards.” During a heated discussion in “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Morgan bluntly stated that he wasn’t let go from MSNBC because of his race, prompting an irritated Reid to accuse him of trying to steer discussions toward racism, particularly with Black individuals. Reid contended that Morgan’s approach to talking about race lacked evidence and seemed to be a consistent tactic of his.
“First of all, it’s amusing that your ‘play the race card’ perspective is what you consider the race card,” Reid remarked. “You seem really fixated on racializing our conversations.”
In response, Morgan claimed, “I’ve addressed race more than any other host in MSNBC’s history. Seriously!”
Earlier in the interview, Morgan questioned Reid about why former President Donald Trump is labeled as a “fascist” for his deportation policies, while there’s little criticism directed at Barack Obama, who was also known for his strict deportation measures. Reid, known for her focus on racial issues, criticized Morgan’s assertions as being rooted in a “white European” viewpoint that centers around race.
She expressed, “I get that this is your angle, and as a white European speaking about race, when you bring up Barack Obama’s identity, it racializes the discussion regarding him as a former president.”
Morgan found it ironic, saying, “It’s amusing to me because I can call Trump a white fascist, but mentioning Obama’s race seems off-limits.”
He labeled Reid a “hypocrite,” arguing that she critiques Trump while ignoring similar actions from Obama. Reid did give Trump some credit for his efforts on border security but accused him of committing “literal terrorism against brown immigrants.”
Post-discussion, Reid suggested that Morgan harbors an unusual obsession with Black people, particularly Meghan Markle and other Black women.
“Morgan behaves like an old-fashioned Englishman from the 18th or 19th century. He seems oddly fixated on Black women and often tries to catch them off guard during interviews.”
Throughout her tenure at MSNBC, Reid made various racial remarks, including derogatory comments about white individuals. She previously supported white women during a discussion involving Vice President Kamala Harris and called Democrat Senator Mark Kelly “Super White,” likening him to a “Wonder Bread mayonnaise sandwich.”
Back in April 2022, she accused Elon Musk of wanting a return to apartheid while he advocated for free speech on Twitter, despite Musk having grown up in South Africa during the 1980s and participating in anti-apartheid protests.
Reid maintained that the online discourse surrounding certain groups often devolves into vitriolic attacks.
In March 2021, she suggested that Republicans would be willing to exchange tax cuts for the opportunity to openly use a racial slur.
